The Royal Roundup

Posted by on Nov 18, 2012 in Uncategorized | 0 comments

It has been an exciting Royal Winter Fair for the Standalone team this year! Neil competed in the Canadian Show Jumping Championships with Campino with excellent placings. This meant that Neil was given the opportunity to compete in the International Jumper division throughout the week. Competing against international riders from as far away as Belgium and Ireland, Neil and Campino completed in classes such as the FEI Hickstead Grand Prix.

Neil also rode Lanie Thomas’ horse Albion in several classes with great results.
With the Royal over for another year, the Standalone team is looking forward to a winter of competing at the St. Louis horse shows and the Omaha Invitational.

Neil and Campino featured in ‘The International’ video

Last April we were lucky enough to attend The International, a new show jumping tournament in Omaha, Nebraska. This world class event was focused strictly on jumpers and the competition was intense. Neil Badcock and Campino competed in the Grand Prix and placed 5th. Lanie Thomas and Albion were 3rd in the 1.40m  High Junior/Amateur Speed Derby and 4th in the 1.50m Open Jumper Speed Derby.

The show organizers did, quite simply, a fantastic job. The attention to detail was at a level rarely seen these days. They went out of their way to ensure all riders and their horses were taken care of and ran a number of social events throughout the tournament. We look forward to coming back in 2013 as this will definitely be a highlight of our season!

RFDTV produced a documentary on The International. Keep your eyes peeled during the first few minutes of the video and count how many times you spot Neil and Campino!

Standalone had a crew of horses and riders at the Classic at Palgrave Phase 1 and the Caledon National also at Palgrave. A number of our young jumpers were out in the .75 metre and .90 metre classes and had multiple clear rounds. Our amateurs competing in the 1.0 and 1.10 metre classes also enjoyed multiple clear rounds and excellent placings. We also had a number of first-time competitors out in the hunter ring and again had great rounds and good placings. With such a large team showing this year, we are pretty excited about the upcoming months. Make sure you stop by and say ‘hello’ when you see us ringside!
